Daniel made it to his post in Afghanistan, COP Zerok, and he said it is.....bleak. The surroundings outside the COP (Combat Outpost) are beautiful mountains, but the COP itself is not great.  This is what he expected, and he wouldn't have it any other way!  They currently have running water, but since they are packing up the COP, they won't have it for long. His men flew out of the States to join him, so he's preparing for their arrival.  A lot of inventory to be done before they arrive!  They only receive breakfast and dinner, so he has requested that we send food to supplement the guys' lunch.  He has asked for us to send food/snack items such as canned tuna or chicken (or their corresponding salad forms), protein bars, beef jerky, cereal bars, pretzels, peanut butter, etc. Another thing that Daniel has requested is AA and AAA batteries.  He doesn't need any more toothbrushes!

Daniel and his Platoon are transitioning in while another group is transitioning out.  The Platoon Leaders transitioning out are taking him and others on a patrol in the near future to show them the area and communities surrounding the COP. Please pray for their safety. Daniel has assured us that it is safe during the winter because activity is slow and low, but prayer for their safety is always appreciated! Daniel has been receiving packages from a recent mail drop, so a BIG thank you to those of you who have sent items to him! He is so appreciative!  When the men receive mail, a plane lands for the men to unload. They drop in gasoline when needed. The packages will be delivered a lot less frequently during the Summer when fighting picks up, so the thought is to try and front load him with goodies and food now! He said local kids swarm the plane and the men, begging for items like their watches, gear, etc.  Daniel said there are lots of dogs and cats around the COP.  The dogs supposedly have rabies (oh my!) and the cats are considered very useful and even prized because they keep the rat problem in check.

We'll keep you posted as we hear more; but, for now, thanks to all of you for keeping Daniel and his Platoon in your prayers.
