BMOC

Picture
All men of the church and visitors are welcome at our BMOC (Being Men of Christ) activities. On the fourth Monday of most months we meet in the Parish Hall for a time of fellowship, dinner and a speaker. Our speakers come from both inside and outside the church and talk about what it means to be a man of Christ. We are blessed to have the dinners provided by the Hog Heaven Barbeque team which has won the island BBQ cook-off two years in a row!

Reservations are required for the dinners and can be made through the contact form at the bottom of this page. Throughout the year we have other events for men such as attending a minor league baseball game in Savannah and a golf outing.

Each Advent season we host a Christmas Dinner and Songfest for men and their wives or women friends. Attendance at this event is limited by the number of people we can seat in the Parish Hall so tickets are required and must be purchased in advance. The church office may be contacted for ticket information.

Contact Hart Joseph If you would like any additional information on this group.

Bookshop

The St. Luke’s Bookshop serves St. Luke’s members and the general public. Our mission is “to equip God’s people for the work of ministry.” We carry out our mission by providing a retail outlet with discounted prices on Christian books, greeting cards, gifts, and Bibles. Our little store is a convenient location for the purchase of Christian-related items.

We use our profits to promote other ministries of St. Luke’s, including St. Luke’s library, of which we are the primary financial supporter.

Bookshop Hours

Sunday        10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Wednesday   9:30 AM to 1:30 PM

Daughters of the King (DOK) is a service order for women and girls of the church. It encourages women to deepen their spiritual growth through being an extension of Christ's Kingdom through daily prayer, service and evangelism. Hospitality

Susan Asnip
Members of the Hospitality Ministry plan and carry out special events (e.g., picnics, Sunday coffee hours). We provide social venues where people can meet and make new friends. Annually, we hope to implement at least three parish-wide social events, as well as other special events for Christmas and Lent.

Intercessory Prayer Group

The Intercessory Prayer group meets each week from 11 to 12 p.m. each Wednesday in the Prayer Room, just after the 10:00 service. We gladly welcome anyone who wants to come pray with us during this hour.

The hour is spent together in prayer for the church clergy and staff, church services, families, leaders, youth, children, missionaries, those in the military and any special requests that we have received. Special prayer concerns are then mailed out to the intercessory prayer chain for daily prayer during the following week.

For prayer concerns that come in between meetings, an email prayer chain is used. If you would like to be a part of the prayer chain ministry via mail or email let us know.

Prayer needs or a desire to participate in the prayer chain may be communicated in any of these ways:
  • Emailed to Susie Galloway at  susiegalloway@roadrunner.com
  • Phoned to Susie Galloway at (843) 715-0582.
  • Emailed to the church at stlukes@stlukeshhi.org
  • Phoned to the church office at (843)785-4099

MOANS

Mothers Of Adolescents Needing Support (M.O.A.N.S.) supports and assists mothers who are raising adolescents. We do this by giving guidance and support to mothers who are navigating the somewhat turbulent years of raising teens and pre-teens. They may feel alone or frightened during these parenting years. We are here to share Biblical guidelines and practical experience.

Real MOMS

Mothers Offering Mutual Support (M.O.M.S) was rechristened Real MOMS at St. Luke’s. We focus on young mothers, usually with children under the age of 13. When children exceed that age, their moms “graduate” to Mothers Of Adolescents Needing Support (M.O.A.N.S.).

Real MOMS is a Bible-study based group for young mothers that has the goal of developing devoted disciples of Jesus Christ. Through our group, older women mentor young women according to the model in Titus 2:2. Real MOMS is a teaching and training ministry which includes support for parenting and marriage skills. We hope to train young moms to teach their children, love their husbands and be a part of the community by serving in God’s name. All our study material is Bible based. We often study books on marriage, parenting, or being a woman who is seeking God in her life.

Also, we are encouragers. We take food to new moms after a baby is born; we share the life experiences of mothering and being a spiritual friend; and we minister to the whole family with family outings and social events. We have taken two bus trips to Beth Moore conferences in the last two years after studying Beth Moore material.

Sunday School

Adult Sunday School meets in the Parish Hall at 9:00 a.m. Grab a cup of coffee and be prepared for a stimulating study. Class gets underway promptly at 9:10 and wraps up in time for the 10:00 a.m. service. Look for our location at the "Celebration of Ministries" on September 9. Information about our initial study will be available then. Plan to join us on the 16th!
