St. Luke’s Sunday Organ Concert Series

This exciting new concert series premiered in March of 2012 featuring two guest organists from the Southeast, who showcased our magnificent Gabriel Kney Opus 108 pipe organ.  These Sunday afternoon 4 o’clock concerts were followed by a Wine & Cheese Reception to “meet & greet the artist”.
The inaugural solo recital was given on Sunday, March 4th by Dr. William H. Bates, Professor Emeritus of Organ at the University of South Carolina, Columbia.  His recital included works by José Libón, Dieterich Buxtehude, John Stanley, C.P.E. Bach, J.S. Bach, and original compositions by Dr. Bates.

The series continued on Sunday, March 18th with the second solo recital performed by Dr. Jared Johnson, Canon Organist & Choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Columbia, SC.  His recital included works by J. S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Alvo Pärt, Dupré, Albright, and Leighton.

These concerts are FREE.  The public is always invited to both the concert and reception.  There will be an opportunity for those who attend to show their support of these organ recitals with a love offering to the St. Luke’s SUNDAY ORGAN CONCERT SERIES.

The St. Luke’s Sunday Organ Concert Series continues with recitals scheduled this Fall and next Spring.  Dates and guest organists will be posted soon!

If you would like more information about this new series, please contact Nina Rodman, Minister of Music & Organist at ninarodmanst@stlukeshhi.org or 785-4099.
