One week from today nine members of St. Luke's Tanzanian Mission Team will be on a Boeing 777, flying from Dulles to Addis Ababa, on our way to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The plans for this year's trip are tighter than for past trips, but we are aware that God may have something different for us than what we have planned. The first week will be spent at the Anglican Clinic in Buguruni, a large slum area in Dar and at the St. Augustine Anglican English Primary School. We have strong relationships in both places. We shall also be preparing for our trip to Kibindu, a small Muslim village about 6 hours out of Dar. While most of the team is working in Dar, Greg will be traveling to Mbeya in the Southern Highlands to do a clergy conference for the clergy in that diocese. One of the biggest issues for the bishops in East Africa is untrained and uneducated clergy. Greg is filling that gap in both Dar and the Southern Highlands. He had also received an invitation to teach in the Diocese of Tabora this year, but logistically it was not possible.
The next week we will be traveling up to Kibindu to assist with a medical mission and to put on a VBS for the children. We will be sleeping in tents and generally roughing it! We are very excited about this part of the trip for which God has been preparing us for some time. There is NO medical care in Kibindu and there is no school of any kind. There is a small mission church named St. Luke's, after our church. What a joy it will be to minister together with out Tanzanian friends.
We ask for your prayers as we prepare for this trip. We just realized that today is the start of Ramadan and we want to be respectful as we share Jesus and His love with His people people in this beautiful country. God's fingerprint is already there, waiting for our obedience in following Him to the ends of the earth. It will be very exciting to see what God has planned for us. Please join us as we do our daily devotions and we will be praying for you as you pray or us. The devotions are available either on line or at church this Sunday and at the Ministry Center.
Blessings in Jesus,
Kathie for the team: Anne, Kyle. Kelsey, Amanda, Yvonne, Logan, Robbie, Greg and Bill
