The Altar Guild assists the clergy by preparing the altar with wafers and wine for Holy Communion. Weekly preparation begins on Saturday morning and is completed shortly before the Sunday morning worship services. Our volunteers also hang paraments on the altar, lectern, and pulpit with colors that coordinate with the church season. Occasionally, members of the Altar Guild make preparations for Holy Communion when requested to do so for weddings and funerals.
Acolytes are the robed attendants that start and end our worship services. They light candles, lead the choir and clergy into the sanctuary by carrying the cross, and assist with the communion elements during Holy Communion. At present, anyone from fifth to twelfth grade may serve as an acolyte.
On a rotating basis, two Brass Polishers from our team meet for an hour each week to polish the brass collection plates, candle lighters, cross and altar decorations in the sanctuary.
The Flower Guild decorates the altar each Sunday. Volunteers receive training at churches in Savannah and in Charleston.
Fee for Flower Arrangements We charge $75 for two arrangements to go on either side of the altar.
Christmas and Easter Decorating After collecting donations at Christmas and Easter, all our volunteers work together to decorate the church. This labor of love takes hours and gives us considerable satisfaction.
Greeters & Ushers
The Greeters welcome members and visitors at the entrances on Sunday morning, encourage visitors to sign the guest book, and introduce them to others when time permits. Our goal is to make everyone feel welcomed on arrival with a friendly smile & handshake.
The lay readers and chalice bearers are an integral part of the worship service. They assist the clergy during worship services through scripture reading and by leading in the reading of various portions of the liturgy, including the Nicene Creed and of the Prayers of the People. This ministry involves lay people in each worship service and makes it more participatory by the members of our congregation.
Sound Recording Ministry
The Sound Recording Ministry provides audio sound recordings of our Sunday Service to anyone who would like to have a copy to hear again or to share with someone else. CDs are available in the Sound Room through the East Transept doors. The last room on your left.
