Frequently Asked Questions About Our Capital Campaign
What is the purpose of the campaign?
Honoring the Past, Rejoicing Today, Building for Tomorrow is the theme of this campaign It focuses on the realities of our church’s 50th Anniversary and the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead. Steps being taken in this campaign will effectively position St. Luke’s Church to fulfill its calling as a beacon of our Lord Jesus Christ, not only for the Hilton Head Island community, but the thousands of visitors who arrive every year.
Who is being asked to support this campaign?
Every member of our church family is being asked to prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift to the campaign. Success of this campaign relies on participation by every member. Our campaign seeks equal sacrifices, not equal gifts. We are also reaching out to others in the community as well as past members elsewhere through our publicity and website.
How long will the campaign last?
The active phase is from April 2015 through June 2015 during which time gifts and pledges will be solicited. A three-year pledge collection period will follow. Families who join our church during the collection period will also be asked to take part.
Why am I asked to make a pledge instead of a one-time gift?
You may certainly make a one-time gift. However, the success of the campaign rests largely on pledges payable over three years. By making a pledge you may find it easier to donate more than would have been possible with a one-time gift.
I would like to make a pledge, but my budget is especially tight at this time. How can I still participate?
The campaign is structured over a three-year period, and you can determine when you want to start payments. You will be contacted periodically by a pledge coordinator assigned to you.
If I pledge to the annual giving fund, why should I also donate to the capital campaign?
Your continued support of our annual giving is critical to our ongoing church operations. Capital projects, such as renovations, new construction and new technology are not in the operating budget. These projects must be funded through other revenue sources, in this case The Capital Campaign.
How can I be sure that my pledge/gift amount is treated with confidentiality?
As with all parishioner records, procedures are in place to ensure confidentiality of all gifts and pledges.
Can I make a gift other than cash?
Yes. Gifts of stock, securities, annuities, gifts-in-kind, real estate and other financial vehicles are welcomed and encouraged. Moreover, giving assets can have significant tax benefits for the donor. St. Luke’s has established a fund with the National Christian Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to enable followers of Christ to give wisely to advance His Kingdom. This organization has an impeccable track record of granting more than $5 billion to more than 30,000 Christian charities since 1982. For more information about giving non-liquid assets, please call the church office. A member of our Capital Campaign Leadership Team will follow up with you.
What happens to the money I give if St. Luke’s does not reach the needed $3.3 million goal?
All gifts to the current campaign will be held in a building fund for the construction and renovation projects. Should our goal not be met, the leadership team in conjunction with Reverend Kronz will determine what next steps should be taken toward finding additional funds and/or paring the projects being planned. All contributions will be used toward the specified objectives.
When will the renovations and new construction begin?
Some projects that are part of this campaign are already completed or are underway. A final timeline will be determined by funds collected and pledged. After the construction phase is approved, the estimated time for completion is approximately 24 months.
Why are we investing in the pre-school program?
The mission of the St. Luke’s Preschool is to provide a quality education to children in a loving environment where they will come to know Jesus Christ and His Word. The preschool is a very well-known ministry of our church to young families throughout our community. Frequently families have begun attending our services after their children were enrolled at our Preschool. Our investment in the preschool building will create a safer environment for the pre-schoolers we serve. It will also free up much needed space for our Sunday School and family ministry programs as well as adult spiritual education.
I really never go to the Parish Hall. Why do we need to expand it?
As our church grows we risk dividing ourselves into insular groups based on the services we attend or the small groups we are a part of. Our current parish hall does not allow us to have groups larger than 150. This limits our ability to fellowship and learn together. It also limits our ability for ministering to those outside of our church with events that will draw them to the Gospel.
