The purpose of writing the Profile was to discover who we are, why we are here and what we value about St. Luke’s Anglican Church. The retirement of a Rector who has been our shepherd for 30 years creates a very critical time in the life of a church community. It presents a unique challenge to the members of St. Luke’s to complete an in-depth self-study and look with great prayer along with guidance from the Holy Spirit to the future. In the initial stages of the profile, we researched the stories of St. Luke’s, from its deep historical beginning in 1767 to the present day. We relied on stories of how we got here, from those who have been here a lifetime, to those who are brand new. Some of us knew some of the story but not one of us knew the whole story. We relied upon work done recently regarding updating the Mission Statement and equally important an updated Vision Statement and Vision Action Steps. Most recently, we have conducted two surveys to help us gather not only quantitative data about our parish but significant concerns about the future as well. We held a series of four small group meetings in which we gathered anecdotal comments about the current ministries at St. Luke’s. The purpose of both the survey and the small groups meetings were to discover what we value about our ministries, our strengths, what we need, and our hopes and dreams for the future, all of which guided us in writing the Profile. We hope you, a prospective applicant read our Parish Profile as part of your prayerful discernment to see if your gifts match our needs.
