Rector Search Committee

Update November 16, 2025 - Discerning & Deciding
As the Rector Search Committee continues its journey to find our next Rector, we’re reminded that each candidate is also on a journey—seeking a new parish home for their family, a family of faith to lead and serve. Through this process, we’ve learned much about each candidate’s unique gifts by listening to their sermons, exploring their church websites, reviewing their resumes (CVs), and conducting both Zoom and in-person interviews. We know they are doing the same with us.

We trust that interested candidates have read our Parish Profile, watched our services on YouTube, and reviewed our bulletin and weekly E-Zine to learn about Saint Luke’s parish life. We also hope they’ve explored the Hilton Head Island and Bluffton area to see if our beautiful Lowcountry community—with its excellent schools, parks, sports, and cultural offerings—is the right fit for their families. As candidates learn more about Saint Luke’s Anglican, we welcome their questions and pray that our responses reflect the heart of our congregation—our brothers and sisters in Christ.

It continues to be a privilege to serve this parish as we seek the person God has already chosen to be our next Rector. As always, we welcome your comments, suggestions, and questions at [email protected]. Most importantly, we thank you for your patience and ask for your continued prayers—that we may faithfully seek and follow God’s guidance throughout this process.

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a Rector for Saint Luke’s Anglican that we may receive a faithful pastor who will preach the Gospel, care for your people, equip us for ministry, and lead us forth in fulfillment of the Great  Commission; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Update on November 7, 2025
Discussing, Discerning and Deciding: An Exchange of Ideas
This week we are looking at a unique task the Rector Search Committee must be prepared for.  That task is to be ready with simple, clear and concise answers to questions that Rector candidates may be asking about Saint Luke’s Anglican.  The process is assuredly a 2 -way street. As we seek to find a new Rector, the candidate is also a seeker; seeking a new parish home for himself and his family…..a family of faith to lead and guide.  We have learned a great deal about each candidates’ distinctive qualities by listening to their sermons, researching their church website, carefully reviewing their resumes (CV’s) and conducting not only Zoom interviews but also in-person interviews. The gathering of information also extends to their family members, church/professional associates, and even their Ministry school setting.

We sincerely hope they are doing the same with us.  An interested candidate will have read our Parish Profile, watched our services on our YouTube channel, read our bulletin & weekly E-Zine to learn about our parish activities and events.  Hopefully, they have also looked at the Hilton Head Island/Bluffton community to see if our Lowcountry community is a good fit for their family.  Our schools, parks, sports and cultural events offer a great place to live. We anticipate their study of Saint Luke’s Anglican prompts some questions FROM them TO us, and we want to be ready.  We reached out to some staff to ask them what they asked when they were interviewing, here is a good example: “one of my big questions was is the culture one of actual hands-on participation real?  Do folks fully participate not only during Sunday service but in ALL church life? Will folks be willing to volunteer in a way that helps us getting to know the congregation easily.”  We look forward to being ready with clear answers that represent all of you - our  brothers and sisters in Christ.

It continues to be a privilege to serve this parish as we seek the person God has already chosen to be our next Rector. As always, we welcome your comments, suggestions and questions at [email protected] .  Most importantly, we thank you for your patience and ask for your continued prayers. - that we may faithfully seek and follow God’s guidance throughout this process.

Amen.
Update on October 31, 2025
The Rector Search Committee is so excited to share that we’re continuing to receive applications for our next Rector, which include resumes or CVs, photos, ordination certificates, and sermon videos. This week, we are actively conducting Zoom interviews with select candidates to help us discern who may be the right fit for Saint Luke’s Anglican.

For those candidates who progress further, our next step is to send a team to their parish for an on-site visit—attending a service, meeting their family, and observing their ministry within their congregation.

Update on September 4, 2025
We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated in the parish-wide survey last week and to the more than 100 parishioners who attended one of our three “Listening Sundays” in August. Your feedback has been invaluable. Together, these efforts allow us to clearly communicate to potential Rector candidates what our    congregation values most, as well as the challenges we face. They will also serve as an essential guide during the selection process, helping us discern which candidates’ skills and gifts best match the needs of our parish.
Our goal is to complete the Parish Profile by the end of next week. This important document introduces our church to prospective candidates and highlights Who We Are, Our Vision and Core Values, What We Believe, and Our History. Thanks to your input, it will also clearly outline the qualifications and qualities we seek in our next Rector. The Parish Profile, job description, and application will all be included when we post the new Rector position—currently scheduled for mid-September.

Update on August 28, 2025
A survey was distributed by the Rector Search Committee to all active members of Saint Luke’s Anglican on Monday, August 25, and will remain open until Monday, September 1. The purpose of this survey is to help us clearly communicate to potential candidates what we, as a congregation, value most, as well as the challenges we currently face. It will also serve as an important tool in the selection process, enabling us to evaluate which candidates’ skills best align with the needs of our parish.

We are grateful to everyone who has already completed the survey. If you are a church member and have not yet had the chance, we encourage you to participate before the deadline. We would also like to thank the more than 100 parishioners who took part in one of our three “Listening Sundays” in August. Your feedback has been invaluable as we prepare to post the Rector position in mid-September.

If you have additional comments, suggestions, or questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at [email protected].

Above all, we ask for your continued prayers for the Rector Search Committee, that we may faithfully seek God’s guidance throughout this process.

We look forward to serving you and hearing from you.

Update on August 22, 2025
NEWS FROM THE RECTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE (RSC)
The Rector Search Committee (RSC) extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in our “Listening Sundays.” We’re especially grateful to the many facilitators and scribes who volunteered their time and talent to make our three sessions so successful. The thoughtful comments and observations received will be invaluable in helping us discern the qualities we seek in our next Rector—someone who’ll guide our beloved church into the future.

Based on the feedback from the “Listening Sundays,” we're offering an additional opportunity for your input. On Monday, August 25, all active members of our church will receive a brief survey via an email platform called, “Constant Contact.” The survey will remain open until Monday, September 1. While it’s short, it includes a section for you to share additional thoughts and recommendations that may not be covered in the questions.

The official posting of the Rector position will take place by mid-September. If you have further comments, suggestions, or questions in the meantime, please email us at [email protected].

We encourage you to pray for the RSC to faithfully seek God in the search process. As always, we look forward to serving you and hearing from you.

Update on August 15, 2025
NEWS FROM THE RECTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE (RSC)
The RSC appreciates everyone who has already participated in our Listening Sundays. The next and final session will be held this Sunday, August 17 in the Kronz Fellowship Hall from 9:30-10:15 am. The Listening Sundays have been the first step in the “self-study” process to assess the kind of Rector we are looking for to lead our church into the future. At each table, there will be a church member facilitator and an RSC member as a “silent scribe.” The facilitators will use the following questions to stimulate conversation.
  • What do you value most about our church community today?
  • What are the biggest challenges or concerns you see facing our church right now?
  • What qualities and leadership style do you hope to see in our next Rector?
Saint Luke's Anglican has been blessed over the years to have wonderful events and programs. For 2025-2026, the Staff is  already planning our churchwide programs and events. Now, with the arrival of a new Rector, he may want feedback about what  parishioners might like to see more of, realizing however, that any possible future opportunities are the Rector's decision. Would    anyone like to share their thoughts about what you liked in the past, or might like to see more of in the future?

Several of you have asked, “What a Parish Profile.” The Parish Profile is a key document that introduces our church to potential Rector candidates. It outlines Who We Are, Our Vision and Core Values, What We Believe, and Our History, along with a clear description of the   qualifications and primary characteristics we seek in our next Rector.
In creating the updated 2025 Parish Profile, we have drawn from the detailed work already completed for the Saint Luke’s Anglican 2024 Annual Report, the outdated 2022 Parish Profile, and—most importantly—your input from our Listening Sundays and parish survey. We expect to complete and share the revised 2025 version by early September. (If you’d like a copy of the old 2022 Parish Profile, please contact Jessica Maples at the Church Office).

In addition, to our three Listening Sundays, please watch for the RSC survey that will be sent to all active members of our church the week of August 25. The official posting of the Rector position will occur by Mid- September. If you have additional comments, suggestions or questions, please send to the email [email protected]. We encourage you to pray for the RSC to faithfully seek God in the search process.

Amen.
Update on August 3, 2025
NEWS FROM THE RECTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE (RSC)
On August 3,
the Rector Search Committee held its first “Listening Sunday” as it begins its “self-study” process to assess the kind of Rector we’re looking for to lead our church into the future. Listening Sunday was a resounding success, filled with lively discussions and thoughtful recommendations made back to the RSC. We thank all of you who attended this first session as your input and feedback is absolutely critical to the process. To ensure that everyone’s perspective is given equal weight, we kindly ask that you attend only one session. If you have additional comments, suggestions or questions, please send them to the email [email protected].

The next “Listening Sunday” will be held this Sunday, August 10 in the Kronz Fellowship Hall from 9:30-10:15 AM. At each table, there’ll be a fellow church member facilitator and a RSC committee representative as a “silent scribe.” The facilitators will use the following questions to stimulate conversation:
What do you value most about our church community today?
What are the biggest challenges or concerns you see facing our church right now?
What qualities and leadership style do you hope to see in our next Rector?
Saint Luke's Anglican has been blessed over the years to have wonderful events and programs. For 2025-2026, the Staff is already planning our churchwide programs and events. After the Listening Sundays conclude, a survey will go out to all active members of our church during the middle of August. The Parish Profile will be completed by the end of August in preparation for the official posting of the Rector position by Mid- September.

We encourage you to pray for the RSC to faithfully seek God in the search process and we welcome your      questions and suggestions using the email [email protected]. As always, we look forward to serving you and hearing from you.
Update on July 29, 2025
NEWS FROM THE RECTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE (RSC)
On July 29, the Rector Search Committee (RSC) met to plan for the Listening Sundays that will take place in the Kronz Fellowship Hall during Rector’s Forum from 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM on Sunday August 3, 10 and 17.
During these Listening Sessions, at each table, there will be a facilitator, with starter questions, and an RSC member as a “silent scribe.”
Here’s a sample of the questions that will be asked:
  • What do you value most about our church community today?
  • What are the biggest challenges or concerns you see facing our church right now?
  • What qualities and leadership style do you hope to see in our next Rector?
We encourage everyone to attend at least one Listening Sunday because your feedback is absolutely critical as we search for the next Rector who will lead our beloved church into the future.
In addition, a survey will go out in August to all active church members. We will look forward to formally posting the job description for a new Rector in September.
We encourage you to pray for the RSC to faithfully seek God in the search process and we welcome your questions and suggestions using the email: [email protected]. As always, we look forward to serving you and hearing from you.
Update on July 17, 2025
NEWS FROM THE RECTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE (RSC)
On July 15, the Rector Search Committee met to discuss changes and updates to the 2022 Parish Profile and to strategically plan the next steps for updating this important document. The Parish Profile is a critical tool, not only in defining who we are as a parish family but will be our “calling card/look book” to applicants interested in becoming our next Rector.

  • First, an important step to updating this profile will be receiving feedback from our parishioners. We’ll be scheduling “Listening Sundays,” where small, face-to-face focus groups will provide input to the RSC. We’ll begin these sessions with our Staff, and then will move to you, our fellow parishioners, using the time allotted during the Rector’s Forum on Sundays: August 3, 10 and  17. At each small group table in the Forum, there will be a moderator with a few starter questions to get the conversation going, as well as a scribe who’ll document your input. We encourage everyone attend at least one Listening Sunday in August.
  • Second, the RSC will email a survey to all active members in our church database, to further clarify and amplify the information gained from the Listening Sundays.

Combined, the information gained from both of these activities will assist the RSC in finalizing a revised 2025 Parish Profile. We anticipate completion of this profile and posting of the new Rector job description by mid-September.

As always, we encourage you to diligently pray that the RSC faithfully seek God in this process. Fr. Jacob has encouraged us all to boldly pray together as a church family each Friday at noon. In addition, we welcome your suggestions and questions using the email address: [email protected]. We look forward to serving you and hearing from you!

Amen.
Update on July 10, 2025
From the Rector Search Committee (RSC)
• On Sunday, July 6, RSC co-leaders Robyn Zimmerman and Chris Miller introduced the members of the committee at the Rector’s Forum.  They also distributed and then highlighted the information contained in the informational pamphlet.  This pamphlet is not only a description of the Diocesan mandated steps of the search process but also an introduction of the committee members and their bios. We hope that you will use this pamphlet to offer suggestions, ask questions, encourage the RSC members to faithfully seek God in the process, and most importantly to communicate with us using [email protected].

• Also, this past Sunday, Fr. Jacob encouraged us all to boldly pray together as a community.  We invite you to take a few minutes each Friday at noon to join us in prayer for the future of Saint Luke’s Anglican as we move through this critical time.

• On Tuesday, July 15, the RSC committee will meet to review the work that has been done thus far by the members concerning the updating of the Parish Profile.  Remembering that when the profile was written in 2022, we were still in the lawsuit and by the grace of God, we’ve been blessed with our parish intact and practicing in the fullness in the Anglican tradition. All this will be reviewed, updated, edited, and as needed fully rewritten.  We are looking ahead to your input, which will include several Listening Sunday “face to face” sessions as well as your responses to the survey.

• As always, we look forward to serving you and hearing from you!
Update on July 3, 2025
News From the Rector Search Committee (RSC)
  • On Tuesday, July 1, the RSC met to begin the process of searching for a new Rector for our beloved church, Saint Luke’s Anglican. After opening in prayer, we discussed our proposed timeline, a review of the Diocesan prescribed procedural search steps, a communication plan and the budget, approved by the Vestry. These initial critical items were created under the guidance of Robyn Zimmerman and Chris Miller, Co-Leaders.
  • One top priority discussed in the meeting was the important need to remain faithful to communicating with the Diocese, the staff, ministry leaders and you … our fellow parishioners.   As a means to this commitment, the RSC is being introduced at the Rector’s Forum, Sunday, July 6.
  • In addition, a RSC pamphlet has been created, which includes the RSC members photos and bios. This pamphlet outlines the steps of the search process and highlights the best way to be united in the search process—through prayer. Please see the prayer below, from the BCP, page 648.
  • Finally, we’ve established an email that will serve as a way for you to send us your comments, questions and suggestions: [email protected]. We look forward to serving you and hearing from you!

Amen.
