Lay Ministry Guide
Dear Fellow Parishioner,
It is of great delight that we have such a wonderful, well-established congregation that supports the work and mission of Saint Luke’s, “To Know Christ and Make Him Known. ” Our parishioners’ collective gifts and talents, both God-given and Holy Spirit infused, are a true blessing, and contribute to our combined ability to make a significant impact within our church and for the world.
Lay Ministry is a necessary and vital component of our life together! We’re honored and grateful that you’d consider joining our church family in service. We welcome your, “partnership in the gospel,” and are fully convinced that, “he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:1-6).
Please use this Lay Ministry Guide as a resource to explore and discover how best you can, “go and love and serve the Lord,” through your own interests, gifts, and talents. We hope you’ll experience enriching fellowship and renewed joy as you co-labor and fellowship with us in Christ.
Sincerely,
The Saint Luke’s Anglican Staff and Vestry

Volunteer
We are called to be servants of Christ and support the ministries of the church. This can be an intimidating calling but when we realize that we all have been blessed with unique spiritual gifts that have been given to us for specific tasks, then we can know that there are positions that are perfect for each of us. We encourage our members to spend some time to assess their spiritual gifts and then find the places in the church where your gifts are needed. We find that we each grow as we support each other in ministry.

Greeters & Ushers
GREETERS
The Greeters welcome members and visitors at the entrances on Sunday morning, encourage visitors to sign the guest book, and introduce them to others when time permits. Our goal is to make everyone feel welcomed on arrival with a friendly smile & handshake.
USHERS
The Ushers assist worshipers by making worship bulletins available and by receiving their offering and presenting it at the altar.

Lay Readers & Chalice Bearers
The lay readers and chalice bearers are an integral part of the worship service. They assist the clergy during worship services through Scripture reading and by leading in the reading of various portions of the liturgy, including the Nicene Creed and of the Prayers of the People. This ministry involves lay people in each worship service and makes it more participatory by the members of our congregation.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild assists the clergy by preparing the altar with wafers and wine for Holy Communion. Weekly preparation begins on Saturday morning and is completed shortly before the Sunday morning worship services. Our volunteers also hang paraments on the altar, lectern, and pulpit with colors that coordinate with the church season. Occasionally, members of the Altar Guild make preparations for Holy Communion when requested to do so for weddings and funerals.
Brass Polishing
On a rotating basis, two Brass Polishers from our team meet for an hour each week to polish the brass collection plates, candle lighters, cross and altar decorations in the sanctuary. Contact Elizabeth Glick 843-301-3313 email: e[email protected]
Flower Guild
The Flower Guild decorates the altar each Sunday.
Fee for Flower Arrangements
We charge $125.00 for two arrangements to go on either side of the altar. Contact Leigh Ann Hoppe 843-683-2800 email: [email protected]
Christmas and Easter Decorating
After collecting donations at Christmas and Easter, all our volunteers work together to decorate the church. This labor of love takes hours and gives us considerable satisfaction. Contact Leigh Ann Hoppe 843-683-2800 email: [email protected]

Acolytes
Acolytes are the robed attendants that start and end our worship services. They light candles, lead the choir and clergy into the sanctuary by carrying the cross and assist with the communion elements during Holy Communion. At present, anyone from fifth to twelfth grade may serve as an acolyte.
